While the movement runs strong it does run about 4 minutes fast over its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. Given this and considering that the movement shows no clear signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. This seldom seen vintage 1973 Bulova Snorkel day-date diver has a matte black “T SWISS T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. Any imperfections seen are on the crystal not the dial. The original lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. The black bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, presents nicely. The all stainless steel case shows moderate wear with very minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “BULOVA STAINLESS STEEL 666 FEET” with “446881” and “N3″ stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped “R/” followed by “7515” and SWISS. The crystal should be replaced as it shows significant scratching, gouging and chipping. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After winding the original “BULOVA” signed non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement was running about 4 minutes fast by the end of its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. Given that the movement runs a bit fast and considering that it shows no clear signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm. Given that the movement runs a bit fast and considering that it has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully, which were taken in natural light and from various angles, as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. While the screwdown crown screws down without issue when it is pulled out to be wound or to set the time the crown tends to skip and not fully engage the stem consistently. Considering that this watch appears to be in untouched condition and has likely never been serviced, a full overhaul is recommended. This elusive early 1970’s Bulova Snorkel appears to be in untouched condition. Under the severely scratched crystal the black “- T SWISS T -” signed dial is in pristine, unblemished condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original tritium on the hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a warm and inviting golden buttermilk hue. The bezel, which rotates bidirectionally and has lost some of its paint enamel, looks great. The massive all stainless steel case is beautifully and uniquely designed with lovely contours. It is in wonderful condition, free of any visibly noticeable dents or dings and no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “BULOVA 666 FEET STAINLESS STEEL ” with “3 615404″ and “N3″ stamped in the center. While the integrity of the crystal appears to be intact it should be replaced given the significant scratching. The case back shows no signs of ever having been removed and is torqued too tight for me to remove. The quickset date function works by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After winding the original “BULOVA” signed screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had a healthy power reserve of approximately 38hours. Please note that while the screwdown crown screws down without issue when it is pulled out to be wound or to set the time the crown tends to skip and not fully engage the stem consistently. Given that this watch is approximately 45 years old, that the crown/stem needs an adjustment and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced , a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 40 mm excluding the crown, approximately 44 mm including the crown and approximately 23 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12 mm. Although the movement runs strong and keeps near perfect time, given that the crown/stem needs an adjustment and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced as the case back shows no signs of having ever been removed, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.
