Vintage Avia Divers Watch withMint Dial, All SS Case, Screwdown Crown FOR REPAIR
Until recently this watch was running strong and keeping near perfect time. While the seconds hand continues to move, the hour and minute hands no longer advance, suggesting that the canon pinion needs tightening. There are no signs that this watch has ever been serviced, so after 40 plus years the time has finally come. An overhaul is needed. This rarely seen vintage Avia is in beautiful overall condition. The greyish black “Swiss Made” signed dial is pristine, free of any scratches, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which match perfectly, has developed a lovely golden buttermilk patina that emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light. The orange seconds hand is vibrant and gives the dial a wonderful energy. The silver with blue numbered bezel, which freely rotates bidirectionally, is in good shape. For me the bezel rotates too easily, so you may want to have a watchmaker tightened it up a bit. Please note that in the pictures the outer edge of the bezel shows what appears to look like excessive wear from the 43-45 minute mark. Whatever this was cleaned off without issue. A new picture, the 6th one in with an 8 in the date window, has been added to show this. The case is in excellent shape without any significant dents or dings, very light signs of use and insignificant oxidation where the mid case meets the case back. The outer edge of the case back is engraved “ANTIMAGNETIC-INCABLOC-STAINLESS STEEL-SWISS MADE-WATERPROOF” with “20 ATM” followed by “01-0905″ and “0194” engraved in the center. The superdome crystal has scratching/scuffing. Please note that while the dial is pristine some dust/minute debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring and now sits on the underbelly of the crystal. The 17 jewels FHF 905 automatic movement with quickset date function is pristine and appears to be untouched. Until recently it had been running strong with a healthy power reserve of over 37 hours and keeping near perfect time. However, now only the seconds hand will advance but the hour and minute hands do not move. With only the seconds hand moving the approximate power reserve period was 40 hours after winding the sharply threaded 4.5 mm screwdown crown 39 full revolutions. The crown winds buttery smooth. The date and time can be manually set without issue and the quickset date function works flawlessly by unscrewing the crown, pulling it out to the second and final position and then turning it clockwise until the desired date has been reached. It’s a great feature that allows you to run through an entire month in literally seconds. Given that the hour and minute hands no longer move and considering that this 40 plus year old watch has likely never been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back), a complete overhaul is needed. This watch measures approximately 35.5 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm. As mentioned above, given that the hour and minute hands do not move and considering that this is a vintage watch that has likely never been serviced there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. A full overhaul is needed to get this watch running as it should and healthy for many years of future use and enjoyment. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Vintage Waltham Divers/Diving Watch withMint Dial, Signed Crown, All SS Case, Patina
This classy vintage early 1970’s Waltham dive watch with rarely seen Explorer-style dial looks great. The smoky black satin “T Swiss Made T” signed dial looks beautiful, free of any noticeable scratching, chipping, tool marks or defects. All of the dial text and printing is intact and vibrant. The patina of the dial lume dots match the patina of the hands precisely, having aged to a warm and inviting golden buttermilk hue. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact, no longer glows after being exposed to bright light. The vibrant orange seconds hand gives this watch a wonderful energy. The silver bezel, which freely rotates bidirectionally, looks good. The heavy, all stainless steel case appears to be in excellent unpolished condition, showing some scratching but free of any dents, dings or oxidation/rust. The outside of the case back is engraved ALL STAINLESS STEEL CASE AUTOMATIC SWISS MADE WALTHAM. ” The inside of the case back is stamped “WATHAM WATCH Co” followed by “SWISS MADE, 17412-84-5, B339″ and “905. The integrity of the crystal is intact but there is significant scratching. Please note that while the dial appears to be in nearly flawless condition, over time some dust/debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and onto the dial. After recently winding the original “W” signed crown 39 full revolutions the watch had a solid power reserve of approximately 38 hours. The crown winds smoothly. Considering that this watch is over 40 years old and likely hasn’t been serviced in several decades (there is a watchmaker service engraving on the inside of the case back), a complete overhaul is suggested. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm. As mentioned above, given the vintage nature of this watch and because it is running fast and the date wheel rolls over prematurely, there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watch running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. This vintage 1974 Caravelle has a matte black dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow on the hands only after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a golden buttermilk hue. The vibrant orange seconds hand complements the dial and patina beautifully. The bezel, which rotates a bit stiffly bidirectionally, is in excellent condition as is the jet black insert. The heavy duty all stainless steel case shows minor wear with the exception of a ding on the chamfer above the bottom right lug. The case shows no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “CARAVELLE SHOCK RESISTANT WATER-RESISTANT TO 666 FEET STAINLESS STEEL ANTI MAGNETIC” with “N 4″ stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped “3286-DP” followed by “CARAVELLE DIV, “B. The crystal shows scratching and some dust/debris on its underbelly. The 17 jewels unadjusted Japan “II DP” and “N 4″ stamped manual wind movement is clean, runs strong and keeps accurate time. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown “C” signed crown 45 full revolutions (phenomenal for a manual wind) the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Given that this watch is 45 years old and the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. Given the vintage nature of this watch and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Vintage Paul Peugeot Divers/Diving Watch withMint Dial, Countdown Bezel, All SS Case
This classy vintage Paul Peugeot is absolutely stunning and it appears to be in untouched condition. The glossy black dial is pristine, free of any visible scratching, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial has aged to a deep golden butterscotch hue while the original tritium on the hands has developed a slightly lighter patina. This subtle difference in patina makes for a truly beautiful contrast. The metal on the hands has corroded slightly over the past several decades, adding character and charm to the watch. The tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact, emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light. The faded black countdown bezel, which smoothly rotates bidirectionally, is in great shape and in certain lighting conditions appears to be dark chocolate brown in color. The all stainless steel case, which still retains its original satin finish, shows virtually no signs of use and is free of any dents or dings. The outer edge of the case back is engraved “SHOCKRESISTANT ANTIMAGNETIC ALL STAINLESS STEEL” with “TESTED TO A DEPTH OF 600 FEET 100% WATERPROOF AND CONDENSATION PROOF” engraved along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is engraved CONDE CO. ” followed by “CASE MADE IN HONGKONG. ” Additionally the case is engraved “HONGKONG between the lugs at 12 o’clock. The crystal has minor scratches that can likely be polished out with Polywatch and or a light polishing. The 17 jewels Standard Time (ST) 92 manual wind movement is pristine and it appears to be untouched. After recently winding the crown 15 full revolutions the watch had a healthy power reserve of approximately 31 hours. The sharply threaded, non-dented original crown winds smoothly. Please note that at the end of the approximate 31 hour power reserve, the watch was running approximately an hour and ten minutes slow. Considering the vintage nature of this watch, that it is running slow and because it has likely never been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the movement or on the inside of the case back), a complete overhaul is suggested. This watch measures approximately 37.5 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 17.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm. As mentioned above, given the vintage nature of this watch, that it likely has never been serviced and considering that it’s running slow, there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watching running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. While the movement runs strong and keeps accurate time, the quickset day and date functions work as they should and the inner bezel turns bidirectionally, the top pusher is stuck. It had been working perfectly fine before becoming stuck, starting and stopping the minute register and sweep seconds hand while the bottom pusher reset them back to precisely zero. Given this and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is required. Picture #1 was taken in sunlight while the rest of the pictures were taken in cloudy, overcast conditions. The original lume on the dial and hands, which emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching toasted warm buttermilk hue. The fixed Pepsi bezel looks great. The all stainless steel is in excellent condition showing minor wear, no visibly significant dents or dings and is free of oxidation. The inside of the case back is stamped SEIKO TIME CORP. The crystal shows heavy scratching. The 17 jewels unadjusted SEIKO TIME CORP. Stamped 6139B automatic movement runs strong and keeps accurate time when being worn. Please note that this particular movement does not run respond to winding the crown. Instead it fires up after being gently shaken and or spun face down on a soft, flat surface. It stays running when being worn. If the crown is turned clockwise or counterclockwise the inner bezel will move in the intended direction. The day and date functions work flawlessly by pushing the crown all the way in to change both the day and date in tandem. To change only the date the crown needs to be partially pressed in. The day window is in both English and Spanish. I’d humbly suggest that the crown be pushed all the way in to get to the correct day and then partially press in the crown to advance to the correct date. The chronograph functions had worked perfectly until recently when the top pusher decided to stay stuck and not depress. Given this and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 11 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12 mm. Given the vintage nature of this watch, that the top pusher is stuck and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. After winding the crown I’ve found it necessary to gently spin the watch face down on a soft, flat surface in order to jump-start the movement. Once it gets going I’ve observed the movement keep accurate time over an approximate 38 hour power reserve period. This vintage 1976 Bulova Caravelle diver has a gray dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. In my humble opinion it presents much better in person than in the pictures. The original lume on the dial and hands, which emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. The bezel , which should rotate but does not likely due to gunk buildup underneath , has aged to a lovely pink and black color combination. The beautifully cut all stainless steel case is in excellent condition showing minor wear and no signs of oxidation. The inside of the case back is stamped “Q 106″ followed by “CARAVELLE WATCH DIVISION, “BULOVA WATCH CO. The crystal shows scratching and some dust/debris on its underbelly. The 17 jewels unadjusted “II DP” and “N 5″ stamped manual wind movement is clean and keeps accurate time. After winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown 35 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 38 hours. Please note that I’ve found it necessary to gently spin the watch face down on a soft, flat surface after winding the crown in order to jump-start the movement. Given that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. Given that the movement appears to have never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such no warranties, express or implied, are attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Once it gets going I’ve observed the movement keeps accurate time over an approximate 38 hour power reserve period. While this watch has a solid power reserve of over 38 hours and keeps near perfect time, the original crown is a bit finicky. With the crown pulled out and when turning the hands clockwise to set the time, if the crown is turned too quickly it will come unscrewed. When this happens I gently wind the crown counter-clockwise to re-engage the crown and then push the crown in so that it is flush with the case. I then turn the crown counter-clockwise with a little more torque to further tighten up it. There are no issues winding the crown counter-clockwise. Given the age of this watch and considering that it appears to have only been serviced once in its lifetime, a complete overhaul is suggested. This classy vintage M-135 Elgin is beautiful. The matte black Germany signed dial is pristine, free of any scratches, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, is fully intact, matches perfectly and has developed a warm French vanilla patina. The vibrant orange seconds hand gives off a lively energy and complements the patina of the dial and hands nicely. The bezel rotates bidirectionally and has aged to a lovely faded light pink and baby blue hue. The all stainless steel case still retains its original brushed satin finish and is in good shape, free of any significant dents or dings. The outside of the case back, which reads “Elgin” followed by “Stainless Steel, ” has some marks on it and the inside of the case back reads “Graber” followed by “Switzerland” and 4156. This watch comes on an original JB Champion Stainless Steel USA bracelet which is in wonderful condition, having little stretch. In the photos it appears that the top right bracelet link to the left of the 6 o’clock lug is cracked when in reality it is a small gouge that has not broken through the steel. The bracelet is currently on the lowest of 7 clasp settings and is loose on my 6.5 inch wrist. The crystal has gouging/scratching which will likely not be completely removed with Polywatch and or a polish. Please note that while the dial appears to be in mint condition, some dust/debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal. The late 1960’s 25 jewels PUW 1363 patented “M 135″ signed automatic movement looks great. While this watch keeps near perfect time and can be wound normally when the sharply threaded and non-dented original crown is flush to the case, the crown has a tendency to come unscrewed when it is pulled out and turned clockwise too quickly. The movement has a very healthy power reserve of approximately 38 hours after recently winding the crown 39 full revolutions and keeps accurate time with the black day, red date wheels rolling over as they should. A complete overhaul is suggested considering that this watch appears to have only been serviced once in its lifetime (lone watchmaker service marking on the inside of the case back) and to resolve the fussiness of the crown. This watch measures approximately 36.5 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm. As mentioned above, considering that this is a vintage watch that has likely only been serviced once in its lifetime and given the stem/crown issue, a service is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old, and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this particular watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. FOR REPAIR – while the date and time can be set without issue and the movement runs, the crown does not wind as it should. Specifically, when winding the crown it does not regularly engage the movement and after every several revolutions there is a relatively loud clicking sound. Although the movement will initially fire up when setting the time, when the crown is wound (and even though it doesn’t sound as though the stem is engaging the movement) I’ve observed the movement run continuously for up to a few hours, keeping accurate time during that period. But if the crown continues to be wound until there is that clicking sound referenced above the seconds hand tends to stop abruptly. Judging by the pristine condition of the dial it’s likely that the movement has never been serviced. A complete overhaul is required. This Le Forban Securite-Mer 15 ATM diver is a wonderful example of a reference not often seen. The glossy black D. Stamped dial looks untouched and is in mint condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume, which remains fully intact, emits a quick-burst glow on the hands only after being exposed to bright light. The black bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, looks spectacular with the lume in the inverted triangle having aged to a beautiful creme brulee hue. The stainless steel case is in excellent condition, showing light wear with very minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “ETANCHE A 15 ATMOSPHERES 100%” with “LE FORBAN” followed by “Securite mer” and “49957” stamped in the center. The crystal shows scratching. A skilled watchmaker will have no problem doing so. Given that I have only been able to get the movement going by setting the time and winding the crown (gently shaking and or spinning the watch face down on a soft, flat surface does not get the seconds hand moving) the movement should be a manual wind. There is no quickset date function. Given that the crown does not wind as it should and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm. Given the issue with the crown/stem and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Vintage Tradition Divers Watch withMint Dial, Quickset Date, Warm Patina, All SS Case
This classy vintage Tradition appears to be in completely original and untouched condition. The matte taupe “Swiss Made” signed dial is pristine and free of any scratches, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, all of which remain intact, match perfectly and has aged to a beautiful golden butterscotch hue. The tritium emits a faint, short lived glow after being exposed to bright light. The black bezel, which complements the dial beautifully, rotates bidirectionally and the color of the inverted triangle matches the patina on the dial and hands perfectly. The all stainless steel case is in wonderful shape, showing light wear and without any significant dents or dings. The outside of the case back, which shows scratching, is stamped Water+Shock Resistant Antimagnetic Stainless Steel Automatic Swiss. ” The inside of the the case back is engraved “Sears Roebuck Co Swiss Made 10742. The superdome crystal has some scuffing. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss stamped “SEARS ROEBUCK CO” AS 1913 automatic movement with quickset date function is pristine (some black can be seen from the deteriorated rubber case back gasket, but the movement itself is exceptionally clean) but does run several minutes slow over the course of 24 hours. After recently winding the crown 21 full revolutions the watch had a solid power reserve of approximately 31 hours. The sharply threaded, non-dented crown winds smoothly and the quickset date feature works by pushing in on the crown. Considering that this watch is over 40 years old, runs slow and has likely never been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back and the black rubber gasket has degraded), a complete overhaul is suggested. This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the caseback to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 12 mm. As mentioned above, although this watch runs strong, albeit slow , this is a vintage watch that appears to have never been serviced in its lifetime. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watching running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Vintage Wittnauer Geneve 4000 Diver Watch withMint Dial, Orange Patina, All SS Case
This Wittnauer Geneve 4000 dive watch has lived a life full of adventure. It has a matte black “T SWISS T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching orange hue. On the wrist and in person the patina could not be more pleasing in my humble opinion. The original stainless steel bezel, which rotates stiffly bidirectionally, has lost most of its black enamel paint. The heavy duty all stainless steel case shows considerable wear, dents and dings. The outside of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL” with “WITTNAUER WATCH CO INC, “”SWISS” and “C11 KS 4000″ stamped on the inside of the case back. While the crystal shows significant scratching, in my opinion the scratching doesn’t look nearly as pronounced in person as it does in the pictures. But a new crystal is recommended if for no other reason than to bring out the true beauty of the dial and patina. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss WITTNAUER WATCH CO. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the original “W” signed non-screwdown crown 33 full revolutions, which is excellent for a manual wind, the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown winds beautifully. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old with a movement that shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visibly noticeable watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back), a full overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm. This watch comes on a lightly used black NATO strap that is in excellent condition. While the movement runs strong and keeps near perfect time, given its vintage nature and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced, there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
