Vintage Hamilton Day-Date withMint Dial, Warm Patina, All SS Divers Case, Runs Strong
This seldom seen vintage Hamilton day-date has a matte black “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. This reference never came with a bezel. The all stainless steel case shows minor wear with no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL – WATERRESISTANT” with “825011 -3″ stamped in the center. The crystal should be replaced as it shows scratching, warping and chipping around the edges. While I normally show pictures of the movement of watches that I put up for sale the case back on this one is torqued too tight for me to remove. A skilled watchmaker will have no problems doing so. The automatic movement with quickset day and date function keeps accurate time and both the day and date wheels roll over as they should. The quickset date function works by pulling out the crown to the first position and then turning it clockwise until the desired date has been reached. The quickset day function works in precisely the same manner except the crown is turned counterclockwise. After winding the Hamilton signed, non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The crown winds smoothly. Given the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38.5 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures 11 mm. Although the movement is currently running strong and keeping accurate time, given its unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully, which were taken in natural light and from various angles, as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. The silver satin “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. Any imperfections seen are on the crystal, not the dial. The original tritium, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a warm buttermilk hue. The brushed all stainless steel bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, is beautiful. The all stainless steel case is in wonderful condition showing negligible wear and very minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “WATERRESISTANT INCABLOC AUTOMATIC ALL STAINLESS STEEL SWISS MADE” with “TESTED TO 600 FEET” stamped in the center. The crystal shows light scratching. According to my watchmaker the case back on this watch had never been previously removed and the original sticker remains intact. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown winds nicely with a bit of friction and it screws down perfectly. Although the movement runs strong and keeps accurate time considering that it has never been serviced (the case back had never been removed prior to my watchmaker doing so) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 42 mm including the crown and approximately 19.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 11 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 13.5 mm. Although the movement currently runs strong and keeps accurate time considering that it has never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. While the movement runs strong and keeps accurate time, the day and date wheels do not roll over. Given this and considering that the movement shows no visible signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. This seldom seen vintage Elgin day-date diver watch has a silvery champagne satin “T Swiss Made T” signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition, showing light markings that are difficult to see and can only be seen from certain angles. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching golden buttermilk hue. The hands show signs of oxidation which in my humble opinion adds oodles of character and the vibrant orange seconds hand gives this watch a wonderful energy. The silver bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with a bit of tension , presents as pristine. The all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original brushed satin finish, is in excellent condition showing minor wear and no signs of oxidation. The crystal shows scratching. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss “ELGIN” stamped FHF 909 automatic movement is exceptionally clean, runs strong and keeps accurate time. However, neither the day nor date wheels roll over. After winding the original non-screwdown “E” stamped crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Given that the day and date wheels do not roll over and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. The black 19 mm genuine MOD. SWISSMADE” Tropic strap with signature “ACIER flared buckle is in fully pliable, NOS condition. Given that neither the day nor date wheels roll over and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. While the movement runs strong it does run about 4 minutes fast over its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. Given this and considering that the movement shows no clear signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. This seldom seen vintage 1973 Bulova Snorkel day-date diver has a matte black “T SWISS T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. Any imperfections seen are on the crystal not the dial. The original lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. The black bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, presents nicely. The all stainless steel case shows moderate wear with very minor signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “BULOVA STAINLESS STEEL 666 FEET” with “446881” and “N3″ stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped “R/” followed by “7515” and SWISS. The crystal should be replaced as it shows significant scratching, gouging and chipping. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After winding the original “BULOVA” signed non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement was running about 4 minutes fast by the end of its approximate 41 hour power reserve period. Given that the movement runs a bit fast and considering that it shows no clear signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm. Given that the movement runs a bit fast and considering that it has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. This seldom seen vintage Waltham day-date has a matte gray “T SWISS T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching buttermilk hue. This black bezel, which does not rotate likely due to gunk buildup underneath , looks great. The all stainless steel case shows minor wear and oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped ALL STAINLESS STEEL CASE – SWISS WALTHAM. ” The inside of the case back is stamped “WALTHAM WATCH” followed by “COMPANY SWISS” and “B – 341. The crystal should be replaced as it shows scratching and frosting. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss “WALTHAM WATCH Co” stamped manual wind movement with quickset date function runs strong and keeps accurate time with both the day and date wheels rolling over as they should. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the Waltham signed non-screwdown crown 35 full revolutions the movement had an impressive 41 hour power reserve period. The crown winds beautifully. Given the movement’s unknown service history (while there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back there is some scratching on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures 11 mm. While this watch has a solid power reserve of over 38 hours and keeps near perfect time, the original crown is a bit finicky. With the crown pulled out and when turning the hands clockwise to set the time, if the crown is turned too quickly it will come unscrewed. When this happens I gently wind the crown counter-clockwise to re-engage the crown and then push the crown in so that it is flush with the case. I then turn the crown counter-clockwise with a little more torque to further tighten up it. There are no issues winding the crown counter-clockwise. Given the age of this watch and considering that it appears to have only been serviced once in its lifetime, a complete overhaul is suggested. This classy vintage M-135 Elgin is beautiful. The matte black Germany signed dial is pristine, free of any scratches, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, is fully intact, matches perfectly and has developed a warm French vanilla patina. The vibrant orange seconds hand gives off a lively energy and complements the patina of the dial and hands nicely. The bezel rotates bidirectionally and has aged to a lovely faded light pink and baby blue hue. The all stainless steel case still retains its original brushed satin finish and is in good shape, free of any significant dents or dings. The outside of the case back, which reads “Elgin” followed by “Stainless Steel, ” has some marks on it and the inside of the case back reads “Graber” followed by “Switzerland” and 4156. This watch comes on an original JB Champion Stainless Steel USA bracelet which is in wonderful condition, having little stretch. In the photos it appears that the top right bracelet link to the left of the 6 o’clock lug is cracked when in reality it is a small gouge that has not broken through the steel. The bracelet is currently on the lowest of 7 clasp settings and is loose on my 6.5 inch wrist. The crystal has gouging/scratching which will likely not be completely removed with Polywatch and or a polish. Please note that while the dial appears to be in mint condition, some dust/debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal. The late 1960’s 25 jewels PUW 1363 patented “M 135″ signed automatic movement looks great. While this watch keeps near perfect time and can be wound normally when the sharply threaded and non-dented original crown is flush to the case, the crown has a tendency to come unscrewed when it is pulled out and turned clockwise too quickly. The movement has a very healthy power reserve of approximately 38 hours after recently winding the crown 39 full revolutions and keeps accurate time with the black day, red date wheels rolling over as they should. A complete overhaul is suggested considering that this watch appears to have only been serviced once in its lifetime (lone watchmaker service marking on the inside of the case back) and to resolve the fussiness of the crown. This watch measures approximately 36.5 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm. As mentioned above, considering that this is a vintage watch that has likely only been serviced once in its lifetime and given the stem/crown issue, a service is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old, and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this particular watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Vintage Elgin M135 Day-Date Diver withMint Dial, Warm Patina, All SS Case, PUW 1463
Considering that this watch has likely never been serviced, a complete overhaul is suggested. This vintage Elgin M135 is in wonderful condition. The matte black dial is pristine, free of any scratches, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which is fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a toasted French vanilla hue. The orange seconds hand has faded to a slightly lighter shade than the vibrant orange found on the bezel, creating a beautiful contrast and giving the dial a wonderful energy. The orange and black bezel looks great and rotates bidirectionally. The all stainless steel case is very clean, showing minor signs of use and still retaining its original brushed satin finish. It is free of any noticeable dents or dings. The case back is stamped “ELGIN” followed by “STAINLESS STEEL” while the inside of the case back is stamped “GRABER” followed by “SWITZERLAND” and 4156. The crystal has light scratching. Please note that there is some minor oxidation on the retaining ring (to the left and right above 1 o’clock), which can likely be removed with a wirebrush during service. Additionally, while the dial appears flawless, over time some dust/debris has gotten between the retaining ring and crystal, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and to a lesser degree the dial. This dust/debris can be easily and quickly removed by a watchmaker using some Rodico and or a dial brush. On the wrist the dial looks spectacular, with the dust/debris being visually imperceptible. The 25 jewels PUW 1463 patented automatic movement with quickset date is lovely and keeps accurate time. Please refer to the asterisked section at the top and bottom of this listing description for more details. After recently winding the crown 39 full revolutions the watch had a very healthy power reserve of approximately 37 hours. The sharply threaded, non-dented crown winds buttery smooth. The quickset date function works by repeatedly moving the hour hand between hours 20 and 24 until arriving at the desired date. This watch measures approximately 36.5 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Vintage Waltham Day-Date Diver withMint Gray Dial, Patina, All SS Case, Runs Strong
