Vintage Elgin M135 Day-Date Diver withMint Dial, Warm Patina, All SS Case, PUW 1463
Considering that this watch has likely never been serviced, a complete overhaul is suggested. This vintage Elgin M135 is in wonderful condition. The matte black dial is pristine, free of any scratches, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which is fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a toasted French vanilla hue. The orange seconds hand has faded to a slightly lighter shade than the vibrant orange found on the bezel, creating a beautiful contrast and giving the dial a wonderful energy. The orange and black bezel looks great and rotates bidirectionally. The all stainless steel case is very clean, showing minor signs of use and still retaining its original brushed satin finish. It is free of any noticeable dents or dings. The case back is stamped “ELGIN” followed by “STAINLESS STEEL” while the inside of the case back is stamped “GRABER” followed by “SWITZERLAND” and 4156. The crystal has light scratching. Please note that there is some minor oxidation on the retaining ring (to the left and right above 1 o’clock), which can likely be removed with a wirebrush during service. Additionally, while the dial appears flawless, over time some dust/debris has gotten between the retaining ring and crystal, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and to a lesser degree the dial. This dust/debris can be easily and quickly removed by a watchmaker using some Rodico and or a dial brush. On the wrist the dial looks spectacular, with the dust/debris being visually imperceptible. The 25 jewels PUW 1463 patented automatic movement with quickset date is lovely and keeps accurate time. Please refer to the asterisked section at the top and bottom of this listing description for more details. After recently winding the crown 39 full revolutions the watch had a very healthy power reserve of approximately 37 hours. The sharply threaded, non-dented crown winds buttery smooth. The quickset date function works by repeatedly moving the hour hand between hours 20 and 24 until arriving at the desired date. This watch measures approximately 36.5 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watching running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. This seldom seen vintage Waltham day-date has a matte gray “T SWISS T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching buttermilk hue. This black bezel, which does not rotate likely due to gunk buildup underneath , looks great. The all stainless steel case shows minor wear and oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped ALL STAINLESS STEEL CASE – SWISS WALTHAM. ” The inside of the case back is stamped “WALTHAM WATCH” followed by “COMPANY SWISS” and “B – 341. The crystal should be replaced as it shows scratching and frosting. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss “WALTHAM WATCH Co” stamped manual wind movement with quickset date function runs strong and keeps accurate time with both the day and date wheels rolling over as they should. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the Waltham signed non-screwdown crown 35 full revolutions the movement had an impressive 41 hour power reserve period. The crown winds beautifully. Given the movement’s unknown service history (while there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back there is some scratching on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures 11 mm. Although the movement is currently running strong and keeping accurate time, given its unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. This seldom seen vintage Silvana has an orange “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a momentary glow before quickly dissipating, has aged to an orange hue. While under high magnification the lume on the hour hand appears to be a slight shade lighter than the patina on the minute hand and dial, in person this subtle difference is nearly visually imperceptible. The black bezel, which rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents as near pristine with the lume pip complementing the patina on the dial and hands perfectly. The all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original brushed satin finish to the top of the mid-case and sharp chamfers, is in excellent condition showing minor wear with no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “WATERPROOF 20 ATU SWISS MADE INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC STAINLESS STEEL” with “10824” stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped 2352196. The crystal looks great. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded, screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown winds beautifully. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11 mm. Although the movement currently runs strong and keeps accurate time given its vintage nature and considering that it has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. While the movement runs strong and keeps accurate time, the day and date wheels do not roll over. Given this and considering that the movement shows no visible signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. This seldom seen vintage Elgin day-date diver watch has a silvery champagne satin “T Swiss Made T” signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition, showing light markings that are difficult to see and can only be seen from certain angles. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a faint, short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching golden buttermilk hue. The hands show signs of oxidation which in my humble opinion adds oodles of character and the vibrant orange seconds hand gives this watch a wonderful energy. The silver bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with a bit of tension , presents as pristine. The all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original brushed satin finish, is in excellent condition showing minor wear and no signs of oxidation. The crystal shows scratching. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss “ELGIN” stamped FHF 909 automatic movement is exceptionally clean, runs strong and keeps accurate time. However, neither the day nor date wheels roll over. After winding the original non-screwdown “E” stamped crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Given that the day and date wheels do not roll over and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. The black 19 mm genuine MOD. SWISSMADE” Tropic strap with signature “ACIER flared buckle is in fully pliable, NOS condition. Given that neither the day nor date wheels roll over and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Vintage 1974 Caravelle 666 Feet Diver withMint Dial, Patina, All SS Case, Runs Strong
This vintage 1974 Caravelle has a matte black dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow on the hands only after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a golden buttermilk hue. The vibrant orange seconds hand complements the dial and patina beautifully. The bezel, which rotates a bit stiffly bidirectionally, is in excellent condition as is the jet black insert. The heavy duty all stainless steel case shows minor wear with the exception of a ding on the chamfer above the bottom right lug. The case shows no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “CARAVELLE SHOCK RESISTANT WATER-RESISTANT TO 666 FEET STAINLESS STEEL ANTI MAGNETIC” with “N 4″ stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped “3286-DP” followed by “CARAVELLE DIV, “B. The crystal shows scratching and some dust/debris on its underbelly. The 17 jewels unadjusted Japan “II DP” and “N 4″ stamped manual wind movement is clean, runs strong and keeps accurate time. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown “C” signed crown 45 full revolutions (phenomenal for a manual wind) the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Given that this watch is 45 years old and the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. Given the vintage nature of this watch and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Vintage Buren Diver withMint Dial, HEV Screwdown Crown, All SS Case, Runs FOR REPAIR
FOR REPAIR – while the movement starts up immediately when the crown is pulled out to set the date/time and continues to run strong for several hours, keeping accurate time when the watch is moved in a brisk circular motion, the HEV screwdown crown does not generate friction when wound in the first position. Therefore no power reserve is generated by winding the crown. Additionally when moving the watch in a circular motion to generate power it feels as though the oscillating weight may be spinning a bit too freely. This is personal preference and does not affect the movement’s ability to keep time. Considering the movement’s unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. This rarely seen vintage Buren dive watch has a pristine gray satin dial that is free of any scratching, tool marks, defects or chipping. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged beautifully to a perfectly matching golden buttermilk hue. The slightly faded black bezel, which smoothly rotates bidirectionally, looks good. The heavy duty all stainless steel case is built like a tank and is in wonderful condition, free of any visibly noticeable dents or dings. There appears to be a very light inscription on the back of one of the lugs which in person is visually imperceptible. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “SHOCKRESISTANT ANTIMAGNETIC STAINLESS STEEL CASE BASE METAL INDICATOR” with “TESTED TO A DEPTH OF 600 FEET 100% WATERRESISTANT AND CONDENSATION PROOF” stamped around the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped W. ” followed by “CASE MADE IN HONG KONG. While the integrity of the crystal is intact it should be replaced as it is heavily scratched. When unscrewing the approximate 4 mm HEV screwdown crown to the second position to set the date and time, the seconds hand immediately fires up. By moving the watch in a brisk, circular motion the power reserve can be built up for several hours. During this time the movement keeps near perfect time. However, when the crown is pulled out to the first position to wind the movement, there is no friction. Therefore, an adjustment will need to be made by a skilled watchmaker. Additionally it feels as though the oscillating weight moves a bit too freely and may benefit from being tightened. The quickset date function works flawlessly by pulling the crown out to the second position, rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. Considering the movement’s unknown service history (although there are watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back it has likely been several decades since the movement was last serviced) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 12 mm. Given that this watch does not wind correctly and considering its unknown service history, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. While the movement runs strong it runs fast, gaining about 5 minutes an hour. Given this and considering that the movement has likely not been serviced in several decades a complete overhaul is recommended. This classy vintage early 1970’s Waltham dive watch with rarely seen Explorer-style dial looks great. The smoky black satin “T Swiss Made T” signed dial looks beautiful, free of any noticeable scratching, chipping, tool marks or defects. All of the dial text and printing is intact and vibrant. The patina of the dial lume dots match the patina of the hands precisely, having aged to a warm and inviting golden buttermilk hue. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact, no longer glows after being exposed to bright light. The vibrant orange seconds hand gives this watch a wonderful energy. The silver bezel, which freely rotates bidirectionally, looks good. The heavy, all stainless steel case appears to be in excellent unpolished condition, showing some scratching but free of any dents, dings or oxidation/rust. The outside of the case back is engraved ALL STAINLESS STEEL CASE AUTOMATIC SWISS MADE WALTHAM. ” The inside of the case back is stamped “WATHAM WATCH Co” followed by “SWISS MADE, 17412-84-5, B339″ and “905. The integrity of the crystal is intact but there is significant scratching. Please note that while the dial appears to be in nearly flawless condition, over time some dust/debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and onto the dial. After recently winding the original “W” signed crown 39 full revolutions the watch had a solid power reserve of approximately 38 hours. The crown winds smoothly. Considering that this watch is over 40 years old and likely hasn’t been serviced in several decades (there is a watchmaker service engraving on the inside of the case back), a complete overhaul is suggested. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 12.5 mm. As mentioned above, given the vintage nature of this watch and because it is running fast and the date wheel rolls over prematurely, there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watch running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
