This vintage 1970’s Waltham day-date diver has a matte is “T SWISS T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching toasted buttermilk hue. The black bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, looks great. The all stainless steel case shows moderate wear and no signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped “WALTHAM ALL STAINLESS STEEL CASE – SWISS MADE” while the inside of the case back is stamped “WALTHAM WATCH” followed by “COMPANY SWISS” and B – 341. The crystal shows light scratching. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded non-screwdown crown 40 full revolutions (phenomenal for a manual wind) the movement had a power reserve of approximately 43 hours. The crown winds beautifully. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38.5 mm including the crown and approximately 20.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. Although this watch runs strong given its vintage nature and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
