FOR REPAIR – The time can be set and the movement will sometimes but not always start to run after the watch has been gently shaken and spun face down on a soft, flat surface (odd for this to happen with a manual wind). When the movement does fire up I’ve observed that it will keep accurate time for several minutes at a time. However, because the crown/stem doesn’t engage the movement when being wound the movement won’t stay running for any extended period of time and often times doesn’t fire up at all despite the attempts to get it going. Given this and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is required. This vintage 1960’s Vantage diver has a glossy black dial that appears to be in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume on the dial and hands, which emits a quick-burst glow on the dial only after being exposed to bright light, has aged beautifully. The black countdown bezel, which rotates bidirectionally a bit stiffly , shows wear with a deep amber colored lume pip that complements the dial and patina nicely. The all stainless steel lugholes case is in wonderful condition showing light wear and no obvious signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “ANTIMAGNETIC ALL STAINLESS STEEL SHOCKRESISTANT” with “100% WATERPROOF AND CONDENSATION PROOF TESTED TO A DEPTH OF 600 FEET” stamped along the inner edge and “232900” and “TK” stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped CASE MADE IN FRANCE. The crystal shows scratching and dust/debris on its underbelly. The 17 jewels manual wind movement is clean and will sometimes fire up after being gently shaken and then spun face down on a soft, flat surface (which is odd that this would happen with a manual wind). Given that the movement does not run consistently or as it should and many times not at all and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40 mm including the crown and approximately 19.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 10 mm. Given that the movement does not fire up with any consistency nor does it stay running for any extended period of time and considering that it shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully, which were taken in natural light and from various angles, as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
