Given this and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is required. This vintage 1969 Bulova Caravelle has a black “T-Japan-T” signed dial that is in pristine condition. Any imperfections seen are on the crystal, not the dial. The original lume, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to a perfectly matching warm golden buttermilk hue. The bezel rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension and the originally black insert shows significant wear. In my humble opinion it has oodles of character. The all stainless steel case is in excellent condition showing minor wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The inside of the case back is stamped “2876-DP” followed by CARAVELLE DIV. The crystal shows scratching and significant debris/dust/spotting on its underbelly. The 17 jewels unadjusted Japan “CARAVELLE WATCH, “II DP” and “M 8 stamped manual wind movement is clean but does not run. The original non-screwdown, “C” stamped crown can be pulled out and the time can be set without issue but it will not wind. Given this and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10.5 mm. Given that the movement does not run and considering that it shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
