It was damp, felt very planted on the snow, and most importantly absolutely ripped! Good news, the new 96 HP still feels every bit like a Kastle, just in an easier to ski package. You still get that awesome feeling of being on rails, but now I feel like I can actually ski this ski all day. New FX’s in the room. Kastle has overhauled its freeride line for 2020. The FX96 HP, which takes the place of the much loved FX95 HP, figures to be the most versatile ski in the line. The big change: metal is gone from all FX’s. Now HP denotes the presence of carbon, which winds around the wood core with fiberglass. Extra rocker plus Hollowtech 3.0, the oversized color bubbles in the tips, maintain primo maneuverability. These are some of the most playful Kastles ever, but they still have the special sauce that makes these premium skis feel uber smooth and stable as you pour one out and point it for Austria. The weight savings in the 2020 version plus the extra rocker mean that the FX is more accessible for a wider range of skiers than ever. It’s also less expensive than previous versions. Kastle DX85 + Kastle K10 Binding. The Nordica Navigator 85 Ski is something of an anomaly these days- a true all-rounder. It’s capable carving, with an All Mountain Rocker profile that helps you push down power thanks to traditional camber sections reinforced with Sidewall Construction, but it’s also a mellow cruiser thanks to a beveled base and edge that makes it more forgiving. At either end there’s rocker, making the ski more agile and helping you find float on powder too. Really, there’s no much these skis can’t do and with the included Kastel K 10 Bindings there’s no reason you can’t be the one to make them do it. A solid all-mountain ski. Performance-oriented while staying nice and forgiving at lower speeds. CAMBER WITH EARLY RISE. By removing excess material from the tip, Kästle creates a lighter ski that’s more stable, has more edge grip and more dampness. The core consists of specifically selected wood that, in different compositions, are laminated into a core. This way the designers control every aspect of the ski. FAST GRIP SHOVEL & HOOK FREE TAIL. The widest point of the tip is far out to the front, resulting in a very direct send into the turn. However, the widest part of the tail has shifted more to the middle of the ski which creates a very playful and forgiving ski. K10 SLR GW BINDING. The K10 SLR binding is a very lightweight binding. I have had every top end ski out there and these are by far one of my favorites. I hate to let them go. Barely a scratch on them except a small amount of tip hack on the metal as shown in last photo. Pivot’s are the same and virtually unscathed. Ready for your Grip Walk’s. I never use my poles in my Pivots so you’ll see hardly any wear. If you’re from the Pivot tribe I need not say anything more. Skis and Binders are Release Year 2021. It’s hard to raise the bar on a distinguished and highly regarded ski like the Kastle FX95 HP, and so it seems that quality, in this case, is improved upon through the use of more modern materials while refining the subtleties of construction methods and shape. The result is the FX96 HP, which retains the downhill performance that we’ve come to love and expect in this classic, while lightening the load and improving on maneuverability and control. This is achieved to a certain extent by swapping out the double titanal laminates found in the previous HP model for a carbon/fiberglass wound core, thereby lightening the ski without compromising torsional rigidity and stability. The nature of the FX96 HP begins with the TRI-TECH construction, which is focused on using higher density wood at the core, with lighter woods at the sides, and then varying the thicknesses in order to reduce weight while maxing out on power transmission and stability. The improved HOLLOWTECH 3.0 tip continues to impress, and Kastle has managed to remove even more material from the front of the ski, thereby lightening the shovel, which reduces swing weight and increases the damp factor. The Powerzone-Sandwich-Sidewall construction is passed on from alpine racing, and the technology provides ideal flex and torsional rigidity with power transfer that is more sensitive and direct. This leads to amazing control when you’re really opening it up and letting it fly. Profiled with low camber and a hook free tip/tail puts the contact points towards the center of the ski, which decreases the effective edge length and offers more in the way of playfulness and a more forgiving feel. You won’t find compromised base material on a Kastle ski, as the base is constructed with high-quality UHM sintered graphite, which results in a more long-lasting and durable base that absorbs wax well and offers unparalleled glide performance. If you’re a demanding, confident skier who seeks to reach and exceed your limits anywhere on the mountain, the qualities offered in the FX96 HP ski can certainly help get you there. While the adage “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” could arguably be employed in this context, we think not and genuinely find the FX96 HP to be better than ever. Lengths 172, 180, 188 cm. The carbon reinforced sandwich-sidewall construction with Hollowtech 3.0 and premium wood core guarantees superior dampness and edge grip, even at high speeds. When it comes to lively yet balanced piste performance, it’s hard to beat. Please Note, Bindings do not come mounted to skis. HOLLOWTECH : Our patented, key technology is unique to ski manufacturing. By removing unneeded layers in the front of the ski we make the ski lighter. This results in several advantages: the ski becomes up to 30 % damper, the ski feels more stable, edge-grip is more powerful, steering is more precise and the overall weight is reduced. The new, revolutionized HOLLOWTECH 3.0 has a two-tier construction: a new outer ring cuts out even more material and therefore even more weight. The size of the HOLLOWTECH is always precisely matched to the shovel of each particular model – for performance that’s truly unbeatable. SANDWICH-SIDEWALL CONSTRUCTION : The SEMI-CAP SANDWICH-SIDEWALL construction combines the durability of a robust CAP build with the performance and stability of a SIDEWALL construction. The topsheet is extended down to the ABS sidewall to give the sidewall more protection at the same time as maintaining the torsional rigidity of a classic SIDEWALL construction. WOODCORE MADE OUT OF POPLAR AND BEECH : Each Kästle ski is built with the finest woodcore, manufactured with precision to one-tenth of a millimeter. This allows us to control the weight, responsiveness and dampening characteristics of the ski, resulting in a high-quality, durable product. The wood type, or combination of different woods, is individually catered to each model line, based on the ski’s intended application. CAMBER : We build our skis with classic camber and distinguish between Standard Camber and Low Camber. With STANDARD CAMBER, the ski center is clearly elevated and the contact points to the snow are far forward and back. The effective edge is longer and the ski initiates turns more quickly and precisely. RISE : With Rise technology, we optimize the shovel of the ski and control its float depending on the ski’s application. CLASSIC RISE creates improved responsiveness for on-piste and all-mountain-slopes. SHOVEL AND TAIL : With the shovel and tail design, we can refine the aggressiveness of our skis. The FAST GRIP SHOVEL is a short shovel in which the contact point and the widest part of the shovel are located far forward. This ensures a faster response at the beginning of the turn. The FAST GRIP TAIL is designed with a contact point at the widest part of the tail, near the end of the ski. This results is a more aggressive and precise performance at the end of the turn.
