This Wittnauer Geneve 4000 has a matte black “T SWISS T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original lume, which remains fully intact and no longer emits a glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully to an orange hue. The original stainless steel bezel, which does not rotate likely due to gunk buildup underneath , looks good. The all stainless steel case shows wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL” with “WITTNAUER WATCH CO INC, “”SWISS” and “C 11 KS – 1 4000″ stamped on the inside of the case back. The crystal should be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss WITTNAUER WATCH Co. The quickset date function works flawlessly by repeatedly pressing firmly in on the crown until the desired date has been reached. An alternate quickset date function can be utilized by manually rolling over a new date and then repeatedly moving the hour hand between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown replacement crown 38 full revolutions (impressive for a manual wind) the movement had a solid power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The crown winds smoothly. Given that this watch is more than 45 years and considering that the movement shows no clear signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 19.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm. While the movement runs strong and keeps accurate time, given that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended to keep it running strong. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. This seldom seen vintage Silvana has an orange “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a momentary glow before quickly dissipating, has aged to an orange hue. While under high magnification the lume on the hour hand appears to be a slight shade lighter than the patina on the minute hand and dial, in person this subtle difference is nearly visually imperceptible. The black bezel, which rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents as near pristine with the lume pip complementing the patina on the dial and hands perfectly. The all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original brushed satin finish to the top of the mid-case and sharp chamfers, is in excellent condition showing minor wear with no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “WATERPROOF 20 ATU SWISS MADE INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC STAINLESS STEEL” with “10824” stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped 2352196. The crystal looks great. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded, screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown winds beautifully. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11 mm. This Wittnauer Geneve 4000 dive watch has lived a life full of adventure. It has a matte black “T SWISS T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching orange hue. On the wrist and in person the patina could not be more pleasing in my humble opinion. The original stainless steel bezel, which rotates stiffly bidirectionally, has lost most of its black enamel paint. The heavy duty all stainless steel case shows considerable wear, dents and dings. The outside of the case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL” with “WITTNAUER WATCH CO INC, “”SWISS” and “C11 KS 4000″ stamped on the inside of the case back. While the crystal shows significant scratching, in my opinion the scratching doesn’t look nearly as pronounced in person as it does in the pictures. But a new crystal is recommended if for no other reason than to bring out the true beauty of the dial and patina. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss WITTNAUER WATCH CO. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the original “W” signed non-screwdown crown 33 full revolutions, which is excellent for a manual wind, the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown winds beautifully. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old with a movement that shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visibly noticeable watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back), a full overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm. This watch comes on a lightly used black NATO strap that is in excellent condition. While the movement runs strong and keeps near perfect time, given its vintage nature and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced, there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. A full overhaul is recommended to keep this watch running strong. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. This seldom seen vintage Silvana has an orange “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a momentary glow before quickly dissipating, has aged to an orange hue. While under high magnification the lume on the hour hand appears to be a slight shade lighter than the patina on the minute hand and dial, in person this subtle difference is nearly visually imperceptible. The black bezel, which rotates smoothly bidirectionally, presents as near pristine with the lume pip complementing the patina on the dial and hands perfectly. The all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original brushed satin finish to the top of the mid-case and sharp chamfers, is in excellent condition showing minor wear with no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “WATERPROOF 20 ATU SWISS MADE INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC STAINLESS STEEL” with “10824” stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped 2352196. The crystal looks great. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded, screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown winds beautifully. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11 mm. Although the movement currently runs strong and keeps accurate time given its vintage nature and considering that it has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended.
