Vintage Paul Portinoux Chronograph withMint Tropical Brown Dial, Divers All SS Case
This rarely seen vintage Paul Portinoux two-register chronograph has a “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that was originally born black but over the past several decades has turned naturally to a tropical brown color. It is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. In my humble opinion this dial is of museum quality. Please note that the first three pictures of the dial were taken in natural light (cloudy, overcast conditions) while pictures four through seven were taken on flash to more adequately show what the dial looks like under bright or sunlit conditions. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a short-lived glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a warm buttermilk patina. This patina complements the brown dial perfectly. It appears that the sweep seconds hand was originally red to match the seconds counter (left subdial) but over time the red paint has morphed into black (there are documented cases of this chemical pathway). The all stainless steel case is beautifully and uniquely cut, displaying knurled lugs and sharp beveled edges. The case craftsmanship is truly special. It is in excellent condition showing light wear and free of any visibly noticeable dents or dings. The outside of the case back, which shows scratching, is stamped “ALL STAINLESS STEEL WATERRESISTANT INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC SWISS MADE” with J. P PINGOUIN CO” followed by “SWISS MADE stamped in the inside of the case back. The crystal shows light scratching and a small crack near the 7 and 8 o’clock marker. In person this crack is not easily noticeable and it appears that the integrity of the crystal remains intact. But it is recommended that the crystal be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted J. PINGOUIN Co stamped Valjoux 7733 manual wind movement is clean, keeps accurate time and all chronograph functions work as they should. The top pusher starts and stops the sweep seconds hand and the bottom pusher resets the sweep seconds and minute counter (right subdial) back to precisely 0. The pushers have a nice catch and release feel with no signs of gumminess. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown 35 full revolutions, which is exceptional for a manual wind, the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Given that this watch is approximately 45 years old and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement), a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the fixed bezel, is approximately 8.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11 mm. Although the movement runs strong, keeps near perfect time and all chronograph functions work as they should, given the vintage nature of this watch and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully, which were taken in natural light and from various angles, as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Vintage Westclox Chronograph withMint Dial, Patina, Divers All SS Case, Valjoux 7733
This vintage Westclox two-register chronograph appears to be in untouched condition. It has a light silver “SWISS” only signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. The black bezel, which rotates bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension, presents nicely. The heavy duty all stainless steel case shows minor wear with no signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped “ANTIMAGNETIC ALL STAINLESS STEEL CASE 634111 WATERRESISTANT SHOCKRESISTANT” with “WESTCLOX” and “600 FEET TESTED” stamped in the center. The crystal shows scratching. While I normally shows pictures of the movements of watches that I put up for sale, the case back on this one is torqued to what feels like factory specs. A skilled watchmaker will have no problems removing the case back. Having owned several identical examples of this reference and given the pusher action the movement is a Valjoux 7733 manual wind that keeps accurate time with all chronograph functions working as they should. The top pusher starts and stops the sweep seconds hand and the bottom pusher resets the sweep seconds hand and minute register (right subdial) back to precisely 0. Both pushers have a pleasant catch and release feel with no signs of gumminess. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown 50 full revolutions (phenomenal for a manual wind) the movement had a solid power reserve of approximately 43 hours. The crown winds beautifully. Given that this watch is more than 45 years old and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced (case back shows no signs of ever having been removed) a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 11 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 13 mm. Although this watch runs strong, keeps accurate time and all chronograph functions work as they should, given its vintage nature and considering that the movement has likely never been serviced, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. This rarely seen vintage La Cloche Sub 200 two-register chronograph has a black “T SWISS MADE T” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. Please note that there is some dust/debris on the underbelly of the crystal. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. What makes this dial special and unique, other than it being in mint condition, is that only its top half has tritium-applied markers. The acrylic bezel , which rotates bidirectionally with the appropriate amount of tension and shows moderate wear , looks great. The massive all stainless steel case is, in my humble opinion, the highlight of this watch. It is beautifully cut and in wonderful condition. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “SWISS MADE SUPER WATERPROOF GUARANTEED 20 ATU SHOCK PROOF” with “905102 S” stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped 3930 A. The crystal shows scratching with some dust/debris on its underbelly. The Landeron 248 manual wind movement is exceptionally clean, runs strong keeping accurate time and all chronograph functions work as they should. The top pusher starts the sweep seconds hand and the bottom pusher stops and resets the sweep seconds and minute counter (right subdial) back to precisely 0. The pushers have a wonderful catch and release feel with no signs of gumminess. After recently winding the sharply threaded screwdown crown 53 full revolutions (phenomenal for a manual wind) the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown unscrews and screws back in perfectly as it should and winds beautifully. Given that this watch is approximately 45 years old and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement), a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 40 mm excluding the crown, approximately 45 mm including the crown and approximately 22 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11 mm. Although the movement runs strong keeping accurate time and works perfectly as it should, considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. This vintage 1970’s Omega Genève Chronometer has a satin blue “- SWISS MADE -” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. Any imperfections seen are on the crystal. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and no longer emits a glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm butterscotch hue. The heavy duty all stainless steel case is beautifully cut and in excellent condition, showing light wear, minor dings and no signs of oxidation. The inside of the case back is stamped “OMEGA WATCH Co” followed by FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE, ACIER, INOXYABLE, 198. 020″ and “MOVEMENT LICENSED BULOVA & PAT (ESA). The crystal, with the Omega logo etched in the center, shows light scratching and some dust/debris on its underbelly that is nearly visibly imperceptible in person. The 12 jewels unadjusted “Omega 1260″ stamped electronically controlled tuning fork movement with quickset day and date functions is clean, keeps accurate time and both the day and date wheels roll over as they should. After pulling out the crown to the first position, the quickset day function works by slowly turning the crown clockwise (date will also change) while the date can be set by slowly turning the crown counterclockwise (day will not change if the crown is turned slowly). The sharply threaded, original Omega signed non-screwdown crown pulls out and sets the date and time without issue. Although this watch runs strong and keeps perfect time, considering the movement’s unknown service history (there is one visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back) and because it is unknown when the battery was last replaced, a complete overhaul is recommended to keep it running strong. This watch measures approximately 40 mm excluding the crown, approximately 42 mm including the crown and and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. This watch comes on its original bracelet that is in beautiful condition with nearly no stretch. The inside of the clasp is stamped “32, “”STAINLESS STEEL, “”1196/210″ and “OMEGA” with the Omega emblem stamped on the outside of the buckle. The buckle snaps tightly shut as it should. There are no spare links. This band is a bit loose on my approximate 6.5 inch wrist while currently set on the third loosest buckle adjustment. It should comfortably accommodate a 7 inch wrist and possibly larger. Although this watch currently runs strong and keeps perfect time, given that it is more than 40 years old and considering the movement’s unknown service history shows and when the battery was last replaced, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage Le Gran Superautomatic Divers Watch withMint Dial, Warm Patina, All SS Case
This vintage 1970’s Le Gran Superautomatic diver has a pristine glossy black “T SWISS T” signed dial that is free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a perfectly matching warm buttermilk hue. The bezel, which smoothly rotates bidirectionally, looks great. The heavy duty all stainless steel case shows minor wear and is free of any significant dents or dings. The case back is stamped “ALL STAINLESS STEEL – SWISS MADE – SHOCKRESISTANT – WATERRESISTANT – TESTED 333 FEET – 10 ATMOS” with “LEGRAN CO” stamped on the inside of the case back. The crystal shows light scratching. Please note that over the past several decades some dust/debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and to a lesser degree the dial. A skilled watchmaker will be able to quickly and easily remove this dust/debris. The quickset date function works flawlessly by either pushing in on the crown or by rolling over a new date and then repeatedly moving the hour hand between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown 30 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Although this watch runs strong and keeps near perfect time, given its vintage nature and unknown service history (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or movement), a complete overhaul is recommended to keep it running strong. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 39 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 13 mm. Although this watch runs strong and keeps accurate time, given that it is approximately 45 years old and considering that the movement appears to have never been serviced, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Vintage La Cloche Sub 200 Chronograph withMint Dial, Patina, Divers All SS Case
Vintage Marshall Field & Company Divers Watch withMint Dial, All SS Case FOR REPAIR
FOR REPAIR – while the date and time can be set without issue and the crown wound, the movement does not run. Given its unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. This vintage Marshall Field & Company diver has a black “SWISS” signed dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visibly noticeable scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. In my humble opinion at certain angles and under various lighting conditions the dial has tropical brown undertones. The original lume on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact and emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a warm buttermilk hue. The bezel rotates bidirectionally and looks good with the color of the inverted triangle complementing the patina on the dial and hands nicely. The heavy duty all stainless steel case shows minor wear with no visibly noticeable dents, dings or oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “ALL STAINLESS STEEL INCABLOC SWISS 511″ with “20 ATMOS” stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped “ZILA” followed by “WATCH CO” and SWISS. While the integrity of the crystal appears to be intact it should be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss “MARSHALL FIELD & COMPANY” stamped ETA 2772 automatic movement with quickset date function is clean (shows what looks like possible oxidation on the oscillating weight) but does not run. While the date and time can be set without issue the movement won’t fire up by winding the sharply threaded, non-screwdown crown, gently shaking the watch or gently spinning it face down on a flat surface. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. Given that the movement does not run and considering its unknown service history (there is a watchmaker service marking on the inside of the case back) a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm. Given that the movement does not run and considering its unknown service history a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Vintage Caravelle Day-Date Pilot Watch withMint Dial, Patina, Divers All SS Case
This vintage Caravelle has a pristine matte black “T SWISS T” signed dial that is free of any visible scratches, tool marks, chipping or defects. The original tritium on the dial and hands, which remains fully intact, has aged to a perfectly matching warm and inviting golden buttermilk patina. The seconds hand is unique, tipped with what appears to be an airplane. While the tritium on the dial no longer glows after being exposed to bright light the tritium on the hands emits a quick-burst glow that dissipates quickly. The bezel, which rotates smoothly bidirectionally, is in near mint condition and the inverted triangle has retained its original lume that has gracefully aged to a butterscotch hue. The massive all stainless steel case is in wonderful shape showing very little wear and free of any visibly significant dents or dings. The outside of the case back is stamped CARAVELLE – WATER RESISTANT AUTOMATIC STAINLESS STEEL. While the integrity of the top hat crystal appears intact it is significantly scratched and should be replaced if for no other reason than to bring out the beauty of the dial and patina. The case back shows no signs of ever having been removed and is torqued to tightly for me risk causing damage. And considering that this watch keeps as good of time as any watch I’ve owned with an incredible power reserve, the reward of showing the movement is outweighed by the risk of doing so. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After winding the non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had a healthy power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Given that this watch is approximately 45 years old and considering that it has an unknown service history (given that the case back shows no signs of ever having been removed and that it is torqued to what feels like factory specs, it’s probable that the movement has never been serviced), a complete overhaul is suggested. This watch measures approximately 42 mm excluding the crown, approximately 43.5 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm. Although the movement runs strong and keeps near perfect time, given the vintage nature of this watch and that is likely has never been serviced, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Vintage Impec Divers Watch withMint Dial, Warm Patina, Countdown Bezel, All SS Case
This uber rare vintage 1970’s Impec diver has a glossy black dial that is in pristine condition, free of any visible scratching, tool marks, chipping or defects. Please note that over the past several decades significant dust/debris has gotten between the crystal and crystal ring, settling on the underbelly of the crystal and to a lesser degree onto the dial. While the lume on the dial markers has aged to a light pistachio hue and no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, the lume on the hands has developed a lovely rich golden butterscotch color that emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light. This subtle contrast in patina is beautiful, in my humble opinion. The faded black fat font countdown bezel, which rotates stiffly bidirectionally, looks great. The heavy duty all stainless steel case is in wonderful condition showing minor wear and is free of any noticeable dents or dings. The outer edge of the case back is stamped “ALL STAINLESS – STEEL – ANTIMAGNETIC” with “100%” followed by “WATERPROOF TESTED, “”20 ATMOSPHERES” and “42450” stamped in the center. While the integrity of the crystal appears to be intact it should be replaced as it is heavily scratched. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an impressive power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The crown winds a bit stiffly. Although the movement runs strong and keeps near perfect time, given its vintage nature and unknown service history (there is one visible watchmaker service marking on the inside of the case back), a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 18.75 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9.5 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11.5 mm. This watch comes on a high quality NOS black NATO strap. Although this watch currently runs strong and keeps near perfect time, given that it is over 40 years old and considering that the movement appears to have only been serviced once in its lifetime, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
